So lets address all the issues one at a time, and I will try to make them as easy as possible. I know that looking at some of the posts can make it seem like a daunting process, but I can promise you it isn't. If you want to get going with Quakespasm-Spiked pretty quickly then can help.ĭon't worry about being Tech Literate. The only time Quakespasm is not a safe choice for singleplayer is if you're trying to run a particular mod that explicitly tells you to use something else. Quakespasm-Spiked is generally a good safe choice if you want a variant of Quakespasm that supports unlocked framerates and various other features. The original campaign and missionpacks, and user-created maps, will work if you use Quakespasm. Quakespasm is the "reference standard" for singleplayer these days. They have some fun features to fiddle with but also potential confusing stuff and compatibility issues depending on what you try to play. (If on the other hand you're talking about multiplayer then nQuake is a fine choice and you can ignore the rest of this.)Īlso, Quake engines like FTE or Darkplaces, or the Afterquake package (which uses FTE), are probably not the best places to start.

I would add that if you're interested in singleplayer - especially playing user-created stuff - nQuake is not the way to go, as that package (which uses ezQuake) is oriented for multiplayer.

Pretty much everyone here is contributing true/useful things.
